Jamaica’s Perry/Wright and Malcolm/Wallen Marches into Beach Volleyball Semifinals

Jamaica became the first team to secure a semifinal spot in the CAZOVA Women Beach Olympic Qualifier being played on the beautiful white sand at Ocho Rios Bay Beach. The “B Team” of Alicia Malcolm and Sashalee Wallen eked out a hard fought victory over a tenacious Barbados A pair of Shari Matthews and Anicia Woods 21-15; 26-24. The “A Team” of Danielle Perry and Kai Wright were in a no-nonesense mood against Barbados B opponents, Sharon Bovell and Anastacia Mason, beating them 21-13; 21-10.

Perry, speaking after the game, was excited about the win. “We are not just here to win matches; we want to make a statement that Jamaica means business about beach volleyball,” Perry emphasized. As can be seen from the organization of this tournament, Jamaica volleyball is about making statements boldly; we are a brand and we intend to make it known!”. We expect a tough semifinal match, against Trinidad but we are physically and mentally ready to fly our country’s flag high on the court.”
