Male Beach Volleyballers Secures Qualification to Next Round of Olympic Qualifier
The Jamaican male beach volleyball pairs of Mark Lewis and Ryck Webb (Team A) and Christopher (Froggy) Walters and Donovan (Larry) Richards (Team B) assured the country of one of the six qualification sports in the second round of the 2016 Olympic Beach Volleyball Qualifier when they got the better of the 2nd seed, Aruba, two matches to nil.
Lewis and Webb first took the court against Aruba B and spent little time beating them 21-12; 21-12.
Walters and Richards lost the first set, 18-21 to Aruba A but rallied, coming from behind to win the second set 21-15. The deciding third set to 15 points saw the Jamaican trailing 5-9 against the more experienced Arubans. They however dug deep to even the score at 12-12. They lost the next point but kept their cool and came away 15-13 winners, for a 2-0 overall win for Jamaica.
Jamaica, seeded 7th out of 14 countries, will take on the 3rd seed, US Virgin Island tomorrow for a place in the semifinals
